PPS files go by the full name of Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show and as the full name suggests, the PPS file is similar to a PPT file but when opened they open directly as a slide show rather than in edit mode as is the case with a PPT. The slides themselves can feature everything that is synonymous with a PPT including formatted text, shapes, images, charts and various different transitions. PPS files tend to only be for presentations that were created before 2003 because the more recent version of this file type is the PPSX and has been around since 2007. PPS files can be opened using Microsoft PowerPoint or OpenOffice alternatives such as LibreOffice.
