DJVU Document Format DJVU Converter
The DjVu name is short for déjà vu, and this image format was created by AT&T in 1998. Its main intended use was for scanned documents, particularly ones containing images or drawings as well as text. DJVU scans are compressed files, and the format became popular as the scans could retain more of the original document’s detailing than some other scanning techniques at the time.
PDF has since become the universal standard document format, and computers and smartphones now allow people to take both photos and screengrabs. However, DJVU’s superior compression levels mean its files can be much smaller than similar JPG or PDF files. This makes it ideal for use in archiving electronic copies of original documents, such as books, magazines and catalogues. To open a DJVU file, you usually need specific software. Sumatra PDF and DjVuLibre can open DJVU files, and Document Express Professional can create them.
